On The Seaplane On The Way To Four Seasons Maldvies Landaa Giraavaru Resort

ON THE SEAPLANE ON THE WAY TO FOUR SEASONS MALDIVES LANDAA GIRAAVARU RESORT

Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru Resort is located on, you guessed it, Landaa Giraavaru island on Baa Atoll. And to get there you'll have to hop on a sea plane that's operated by Maldivian Air Taxi for a 30 to 45 minute ride.

Down a floating platform, to the sea plane! We were ready to enjoy our first experience with those cheerful red sea planes. The sea plane that we took was way smaller than the plane that brought us to Male International Airport. One of the crew squeezed to the front and briefed us on the safety procedures and included a joke about how if it got too warm on the plane we could use the safety pamphlet as a fan. I chuckled at that(if only I had known how little he was actually joking). Once the engines start, you'll be happy you have a pair of ear plugs. With the ear plugs in it was a bit difficult to understand the crew. I finally realised that they were trying to offer me ear plugs. Well it was great to know that the crew really takes good care of you on Maldivian Air Taxi.

Before long we were moving away from the floating platform for take off! Taking off from water is similar from the ground yet so different at the same time. With waves causing tiny jolts here and there, my stomach was definitely not happy. But we were quickly into the air and once up it didn't feel that much different from a bigger plane. Not long after we were in the air I noticed Karen fanning herself with her safety pamphlet, with a quizzical look to ask if I was warm she fanned the both of us(one of the little things that make her so sweet). Yup, that sea plane was WARM. Luckily we had a little heads up about the heat and wore shorts and berms. The crew, ever helpful, start moving around the plane offering cool white grape scented towels.

In spite of the heat and the constant drone of the engines, the view from the window was absolutely incredible. Island after island surrounded by clear light blue water. Different resorts passed beneath us as we headed to Landaa Giraavaru.

The sea plane ride was over really quickly, peering out of the sea plane window we could see the Four Seasons Maldives Landaa Giraavaru and the pilot was getting our plane in position for Karen's and my first sea plane landing!

If you've never been in a sea plane before and you suffer from motion sickness like us, a sea plane landing is not something that should excite you. We however, unsuspecting, grinned excitedly at each other and looked eagerly out the window as the sea plane touched the sea. It was horrible, the sea was a little choppy during landing and that made our plane shake really badly.

Struggling out of the sea plane as soon as the crew said it was clear, we clambered onto a floating platform heaving over the waves. I might be exaggerating a bit but that's how it feels for people like us who get motion sickness easily.

The Four Seasons Maldives Landaa Giraavaru staff helpfully offer us a hand while we cling to each other, trying to master the heaving floating platform and our heaving stomachs simultaneously. From the floating platform the whole family climbs onto a boat that will bring us to the sheltered wooden dock. The staff were extremely helpful with my grandfather who had difficulties getting from the sea plane, to the floating platform, to the boat, to the dock. He made that whole trip in a chair that was carried by the Four Seasons staff the entire way. We were extremely impressed with the level of service. A few metres in the boat brings us to the sheltered wooden dock and lovely stable ground. We made it to Four Seasons Maldives Landaa Giraavaru and were excited to explore the resort that was sprawled across the entire island of Landaa Giraavaru and rest a few minutes in our room to recover from our journey.
