GETTING STARTED

STEP 1
Thread your leather cord through the button from the concave side.

STEP 2: PLACEMENT FOR ADDITIONAL TENSION
Secure the button with the leather cord onto the clipboard. I did mine with the button facing left and the loose ends of the leather cord facing right. With the leather cord laying across horizontally and secured to the clipboard, you'll have more control and tension when threading the beads.

STEP 3: SILK THREAD
Cut the required silk thread into 2 equal halves. Place them side by side and fold them in half.

Thread through the big eye needle with the U-shaped end of the silk threads.

After you have threaded it through the big eye needle, form a loop by folding the U-shaped end towards the loose ends.

Pick up the threads at the part where it forms a "Y". Then, pull the loose ends while still holding on to the "Y" part of the silk threads firmly, yet allowing the threads to slide in between the thumb and index finger. By doing this step, we will be threading with 4 threads later on.

STEP 4: POSITION OF LEATHER CORD & SILK THREADS
Thread the bottom leather cord through the silk thread loop. Tighten the silk threads that loop around the leather cord firmly, about 5mm-10mm away from the back (convex side) of the button.

ENDING

STEP 1: ENDING THE SILK THREADS
After you have finished threading all the beads for your Chan Luu bracelet, you'll end the silk threads by dividing the 4 strands into 2.

Thread the left 2 strands of silk thread in between the last 2 beads. Repeat the step for the right 2 strands of silk threads on the right side of the last bead.

End it with a square knot.

After knotting, gather the 4 strands of silk threads and thread them through the last bead. This way, the knot will be tucked into the bead.

Snip off the excess threads as close to the last bead as possible.

  2. I have been pouring over many of the tutorials online for this type of bracelet and yours is the most correct/authentic. Button first, knots at the end. The way of attaching the silk thread at the beginning is the cleanest. Thank you!

  3. Hi Karen,

Thank you for all your Chan luu wrap bracelet tutorials.

I have two questions, though. First, how do you keep your super-long silk threads from tangling?

And when you bead, and you do the s do you go back through the bead on your way to the next bead? That was the only part that was not really shown in the tutorial. Perhaps you have a more detailed one on beading that I am missing.

    Thank you so much,
    Ingrid
